Personally, I’m going through some serious withdrawal symptoms from not being up at the Ed Fest this year. If you’re lucky enough to be going, here’s my recommendations for something wonderful to do while you’re up there.

1/ Board Game smackdown!
7:45PM – Dropkick Murphy’s
This is a wonderfully different show from my buddy James Cook. he best thing about it is – from the name, you’ll instantly know if it is for you or not. Comics play boardgames live – I know it sounds awful but it’s actually all kinds of wonderful, assuming you’re the kind of hip to the groove cat that likes boardgames. Personally, I am.

2/ 07800 834030 – Miranda Kane
I’m not suggesting you phone Miranda for a good time, although you could. She has come up with a wonderfully bonkers idea for a show. She’s put her number out there and then all manner of nutters and loons ring in live and her and the audience talk to them. I’m pretty sure that’s what is happening. Frankly, it’s going to be a wonderfully weird experience, I’ve heard great things and whatever happens, you’ll have an entirely Edinburgh experience.

3/ Phil Ellis – Alone Together But Mostly Alone
Phil did incredible shows the last few years with Funz and Gamez. It was essentially a supposed kids show that was actually magnificently funny for everybody although not for the same reasons. Phil is a wonderfully brave performer who just fully commits to mad ideas. He might well be selling out by now but if not, treat yourself. Tell him Lianne sent you.

4/ Seymour Mace – Shit title
Seymour is frankly one of the great under-appreciated geniuses of British comedy. He should be a big star. His mind works in a way nobody else’s does and my God, it doesn’t have produce the funny. He got nominated for an award last year which is only right.

5/ Rob Mullholland
I’ve worked with Rob a lot recently. He’s a newer act on the block and he just has funny bones. Freakishly long bones, but funny none-the-less. He’s on at 1:15PM and it’s yet another treat from the free festival. Go see him, it’ll be a lot of fun.

There’s load more stuff I could recommend. Kiri Pritchard-McLean, Mickey Sharma, Justin Moorhouse, Hal Cruttenden, Hayley Ellis, Brennan Reece, Adam Rowe, Gary Delaney (he’d of been in there but he’s only doing half a run, lightweight!), Silky, James Meehan, Jonny Pelham, Will Duggan – the list goes on. In fact, go see everything – everything is great!
